Professor Ken McGillivray is currently appointed the Secretary General of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities and is a Visiting Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the National University of Singapore. APRU fosters cooperation in education and research among 37 world class universities in areas of major importance to the Pacific Rim community including economic development, science and technology, human resource development, education and environmental protection.  Professor McGillivray has a strong background in senior university administration, particularly the internationalization of academic, research, advancement and business development portfolios.  Professor McGillivray has extensive experience in advising universities on how to transform their academic and administrative environment in teaching, learning and service by integrating global knowledge, skills and perspective. He has published and provided practical implementation and delivery advice to the post-secondary public and private sector and to government on the appreciation and consequences of transnational flows of people, capitol and information as well as developing strategies to assist institutions of higher education to embrace the concepts of internationalization including (global) citizenship, international development, global research consortiums, advancement strategies and promoting the values of a civil and sustainable society.

Professor McGillivray joined Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada in 1981 and has held a number of senior appointments in administrative services, graduate studies and research, university advancement and internationalization portfolios. He joined UBC in 2003 and was appointed Director, UBC International as well as serving as Acting Associate Vice-President International, providing leadership in the internationalization of UBC and representing the university in its international academic, research and student-related interests.  In 2006 Professor McGillivray was appointed Vice-President Academic for the Raffles Education Corporation headquartered in Singapore. REC is the largest private education provider in Asia as well as being ranked in the top 10 private education providers worldwide. Professor McGillivray's teaching and research career spans 25 years of undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision.  His research interests and current publications  are in the area internationalization strategies for post-secondary education and government including; international collaborative research and global research networks, technology transfer and commercialization, global fund raising, innovative programming for domestic and international markets, international consortiums, international development and advancement strategies connected to recruitment, student services and alumni affairs. Professor McGillivray received his B.A. in English Literature at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada), completed Graduate Research at Queen's University (Kingston, Canada), and has a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of London (London, England).
