APRU World Institute Project Workshop

Pacific Rim Cities: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies (CMAS)

"Indonesia's Climate Change Challenges, Policy Commitment & Policy Priorities"

March 18 – 19, 2010
Jakarta, Indonesia

Hosted by:
University of Indonesia

Urbanisation, coupled with changes in climate, is increasing the risk of disaster to Asian communities. Acknowledging the importance of water environment to cities and communities in the context of climate change, the organizing committee of the APRU World Institute (AWI) together with the University of Indonesia has conceptualised the CMAS workshop. In this workshop, AWI CMAS experts, Indonesia researchers from the University of Indonesia and other organisations will share and discuss possible joint research activities in Indonesia on climate change. This workshop will also discuss the latest issue such as the Indonesia proposal to reduce the emission by 26% in 2020, as has been stated by the President of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Copenhagen meeting.

With about 50 researchers coming across from the Pacific Rim cities, these discussions might deliver some of the following contributions:

1. Government: enrich and improve PPP (Policy-Plan-Program) design quality as well as its compliance system on undertaking mitigation and adaptation programs.

2. University/ Research Institute: designing research mainstreaming on climate change cross-cutting
issues, developing research capacity on climate change, and publishing or disseminating some
useful ideas for the beneficiaries of other stakeholders.

3. Public/NGO: better awareness and understanding on climate change and improving preparedness
level as part of mitigation and adaptation process.

4. Private/Industry: capturing climate change challenges as part of being corporate citizen and its
developing cross-sectors of business opportunities frame (energy, plantation, agriculture, property,
transportation, etc.)
