The 6th APRU Sustainable Cities & Landscapes Conference 2023

A plenary sessions will begin in Quito on August 5-6, then moved to the Galapagos Island for working group centered work August 7-10. Time on the islands allows working groups to meet and discuss collaborations across fields under themes that support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, while time spent in Quito will help preface the event.

Working Groups

The SCL Program uses a “working group” framework to produce actionable knowledge and plans from each annual conference. Rather than focusing on disseminating research that has already been completed, conferences focus on developing joint research collaboration that bridge multi-disciplinaries, and contributing towards finding solutions to the pressing problems of this century.

This year’s working groups will incorporate concepts from previous conferences while adjusting to focus on the particular circumstances of the Galapagos archipelago, with supports by experts from Ecuador.

  • Urban Landscape Biodiversity
  • Water, Waste Water & Global Health
  • Sustainable Urban Design & Transitions in Waterfronts
  • Future Energy Landscapes and Vulnerable Communities

Find out the description of each working group here.

Student Symposium

Students will present their work and PhD students will be partnered with an experienced mentor in their field for valuable insight and networking opportunities.
