Vice Presidents for Research Meeting 2015
Host University

The inaugural Vice Presidents for Research Meeting will be hosted by UNSW Australia from November 18 to 20, 2015.  The meeting provides the opportunity for participants to discuss common challenges and share solutions. Leading international speakers will resource the meeting discussions and topics expected to be covered include open access data, research integrity, defence trade controls, intellectual property, global rankings and benchmarking, infrastructure and international collaboration in APRU.

The VPs for Research Meeting is an opportunity for research leaders and senior administrators of 45 leading research universities to evaluate trends and opportunities as well as to share issues of most concern to them in their specific contexts.

Participants can expect dialogue with prominent speakers from the research community, industry and academic leadership.  Confirmed speakers for the event include E. William Colglazier of the American Association for Advancement of Science and Yuichiro Anzai of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.

Dr. E. William Colglazier is Visiting Scientist and Senior Scholar in the Center for Science Diplomacy at the American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) and works primarily to support science diplomacy and international collaboration and cooperation in science and technology. He served as the fourth Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State from 2011 to 2014. His role was to provide scientific and technical expertise and advice in support of the development and implementation of U.S. foreign policy.

Dr. Colglazier will be addressing APRU VPs for Research on “The Role of Universities in Advancing Diplomacy, Advising Governments, and Contributing to Sustainability”. Read more

Dr. Yuichiro Anzai is President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Japan’s representative government-supported research funding agency. Dr. Anzai also serves as a member of the Council for Science and Technology and Chairperson of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO. From 2001 to 2009, Dr. Anzai was President of Keio University. Prior to that, he was Dean of the School of Science Technology (1993 to 2001) and Professor of Computer Science (starting in 1988) at Keio. He also served as President of APRU, and Chairperson of the Central Council for Education.

Dr. Anzai will speak on “Research Funding for International Collaboration and International Collaboration for Research Funding: Towards the Future”. Read more
