Human Galapagos – Boundaries, Territories and Places emerged from the 6th APRU Sustainable Cities and Landscapes (SCL) Conference, hosted by Universidad San Francisco de Quito in August 2023, and reflects extensive transdisciplinary collaborations among researchers across the Pacific Rim.
The book offers a comprehensive, place‑based study of how human and ecological systems interact across the Galápagos Islands. Bringing together experts in architecture, landscape design, ecology, urban planning, and environmental policy, the volume analyzes how borders, territories, infrastructure, and cultural imaginaries shape both challenges and solutions for sustainability in the archipelago. Developed through APRU’s Sustainable Cities and Landscapes program network, the book provides new frameworks for understanding the Galápagos as a socio‑ecological model with global relevance.
