Advancing Sustainable Agriculture through Asia-Pacific Innovation

Food security is a pressing concern in the Asia-Pacific, where rapid urbanization, climate change, and population growth strain agricultural systems. The region faces challenges such as declining arable land, supply chain disruptions, and the need for sustainable, resilient food systems. Addressing these issues requires innovation, collaboration, and region-specific solutions.

Our Work

The Program is dedicated to fostering information exchange and building a regional innovation hub that addresses critical food security and climate resilience challenges across the Asia-Pacific. Co-hosted by Simon Fraser University, Nanyang Technological University, and the National University of Singapore, the program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to develop cutting-edge agritech solutions—including AI, IoT, robotics, and alternative proteins—to advance climate-resilient agriculture, resource-efficient systems, and regenerative practices. Key initiatives include:

  • APRU Food Security and Agritech Symposium – The 2025 symposium explored regional agricultural needs and lay the groundwork for a regional agritech innovation hub.
  • APRU Food Security Webinar Series – The 2024 series spotlighted technological advancements in precision agriculture and food shelf-life extension.
  • Global Engagement – APRU participates in global dialogues addressing food security and climate challenges. For example, APRU joined the CIAC2024 Agri-food conference that convened leaders from academia, industry, and government to tackle key challenges in the Canada–Asia agri-food landscape.
