Nominate students to Present at the APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting
via the International Summer Research Program at UCSD

Introduction

In honor of the opportunity for hosting APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting, UC San Diego and APRU are inviting APRU member universities to nominate a student to participate in our International Summer Research Program (ISRP). Selected students will be invited to participate in a student panel discussion at the APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting on June 24, 2025 at UC San Diego.

About the International Summer Research Program at UC San Diego

Beginning in 2012, ISRP hosts top students from partner universities to conduct cutting-edge research in a lab of one of UC San Diego’s preeminent faculty. In addition to gaining invaluable research experience, students will participate in extracurricular activities to explore the San Diego community and cultivate their professional development. At the end of the nine-week program, students will present their research projects at the ISRP 2025 Research Symposia.

This is a high-impact, transformative opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students
to enhance their research skills, experience life on a U.S. university campus, and bond with
peers and professionals from around the world.

There will be a pre-ISRP program for students from APRU member universities that coincides
with the President’s Meeting (June 22-24); selected students will be invited to participate in
a student panel discussion at the APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting June 24, 2025 at UC San
Diego.

Nomination and Selection of APRU Students

  • Each APRU institution is eligible to nominate one (1) student from your university to
apply to the ISPR program. There are ten (10) placements allocated to APRU member
universities for this ISRP application cycle.

  • APRU is pleased to offer a subsidy of USD 500 for each selected student travelled
from Asia who will be invited to present at the APM student panel, on June 24.

  • UCSD will cover on-campus housing from June 21 to June 29, 2025.
    |
  • There will be a pre-ISRP program exclusive for the APRU students in the period of
    June 21 to June 29, 2025.

  • 5 selected students will be invited to participate in a student panel discussion at the
APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting on June 24, 2025 at UC San Diego on the topic of
“The Future of Longevity Research: Engaging the Next Generations Scholars”

  • To ensure a well-balanced and diverse representation, the final selection of the students to present in the APM is subjected to the decision of APRU and UC San Diego.

ISRP Program Details

  • Program Costs: USD$5,500 (covering on-campus housing for 9 week, visa fee, laboratory fee, activities and excursion fee) *

  • Program date: June 29 – August 30, 2025

  • Based on the participating labs in this year’s program, the program is looking for students studying engineering, marine sciences, biological sciences, and physical sciences. In addition to the relevant fields of study, labs may also require students to possess certain pre-requisites to effectively work on the research project. Details on the participating labs can found on the ISRP 2025 Mentor List.

  • It is important that students review the participating labs to ensure their academic background and experience align with the subject matter and any required knowledge, skills and abilities relevant to the research project.

UC San Diego and UC San Diego Health are currently undergoing a USD 5 billion construction boom to expand healthcare services, classrooms, research space and double the number of on-campus housing units.

Khosla has significantly expanded college access and affordability for underserved populations, initiated interdisciplinary research initiatives to foster collaboration and solve societal challenges, and strengthened university and community relationships and partnerships.

An internationally renowned electrical and computer engineer, Khosla previously served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Philip and Marsha Dowd University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University. He spent the majority of his early career at Carnegie Mellon, rising through the ranks from his first position as Assistant Professor in 1986 to his appointment as Dean in 2004.
