The fourth In-Person Meeting of the APRU Indigenous Knowledges Network will be hosted by the University of the Philippines and held in Boracay, Philippines, from June 16 to 20, 2026. The meeting will take place under the title:
Living Knowledge Traditions Rooted in Land and Sea: Pathways to Resilience, Innovation, and Cultural Continuity.
Boracay is globally recognized its rich coastal and marine ecosystems as well as a major tourism destination. Rapid tourism growth and infrastructure expansion have reshaped the island’s environmental and socio-economic landscape. This context highlights the relevance of the title, as Indigenous and local knowledge systems remain vital for ensuring in supporting inclusive development, effective environmental governance, and community‑led resilience.
As host institution, the University of the Philippines offers an opportunity to highlight the country’s diverse Indigenous knowledge traditions within regional and global higher education discourse and research conservations. Convening the meeting in Boracay, provides a compelling setting for dialogue on cultural heritage, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development, grounded in local and Indigenous perspectives.
