The 15th APRU-IRIDeS Multi-Hazards Symposium 2019

Building Resilience Through Disaster Risk Reduction,
Response, Recovery & Reconstruction in the 2030 Agenda

The APRU Multi-hazards Symposium 2019 focused on exploring the interrelationship between disasters and development at the local, national, and global levels as well as understanding how disaster risk reduction (DRR) can best be applied to the future sustainable development of society. The Symposium explored the role of universities in delivering the objectives of the Sendai Framework for DRR and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This event provided an excellent opportunity for experts and academics to share and exchange advancement in research, technologies, and applications. Ms. Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and head of the Office for Disaster Risk Reduction of United Nations was the special keynote.

Other keynote speakers were Mr. Walter Cotte Witingan from IFRC, Dr. H. Kit Miyamoto, CEO, and President of Miyamoto International, Prof Rajib Shaw from Keio University, and Prof Osamu Murao from Tohoku University.
